Kung-Fu means hard work & Skill, Courage and ingenuity are all necessary for the study of Kung-Fu. Kung-fu is an art that entails not only self defense skills or getting in shape but also teaches about the mind, body and spirit and how one can grow in all aspects of life. The word ‘Kung’ in Chinese means all these thing and more, it means a kind of concentration. ‘Kung’ development is mainly related with the external styles of kung-fu, while ‘chi’ development is related with the internal styles of Kung-Fu.

The most important religious influence on Chinese martial arts was Bodhidharma (AD 448-527), who left his Indian retreat to spread the word of the ‘Buddha’ in china. The approach he taught was known in Indian as ‘Dhyana’ and in Chinese it was called ‘Ch’an’. ‘Ch’an’ Buddhism put emphasis on meditation. Buddhidharma went to the Shaolin Temple in Honan province. Bodhidarma was received there and become the First-Pariarch of ch’an. His iron self-discipline and strength contrasted with that of his new Chinese charges, he compelled them to improve there Physical condition by devising a series of exercises. This period mark the beginning of much of the traditional Kung-Fu. The three great sages (Taoism, Cinfucianism, Buddhism) and Their influences in the evolution of Kung-Fu.
